Winter has Arrived!!

Even Hawkeye got out in the snow - he didn't mind it.

Look Mom what I made - we can just leave these out and grab them one at a time as we need them. Yeah right - I knocked them down the next a.m.

This past week we definitely welcomed winter back into our lives. Katie only had school on Monday and Friday - having three days off due to the snow. We spend Tuesday and Wednesday home and by Wednesday afternoon Katie was bored. She managed to shoot a documentary of the blizzard by borrowing my phone. If you are so inclined sit back and watch the blizzard according to Katie. It's kinda funny because at some point I start yelling at her not realizing that she is shooting her documentary. Oh well - such is life at the Kaufman house. (To shut the Christmas music off scroll down to the bottom of the blog and hit the pause button - or you'll hear Judy Garland and Katie Kaufman)

Katie's class had their turn at the Advent prayer service on Friday. They did great considering they had only practiced on Monday. Katie has been practicing singing in the car and did a great job during her part of the 15 minute service. She got to be a shepherd and wear her pink bathrobe (which I am certain the original shepherds probably wore) and got to hold up a heart to show the love that Christ gives to us. She held it up proudly in her pink bathrobe.

I have gotten to know my snowblower pretty well this week. I used it several times on Tuesday and Wednesday because I live in the prime snow drift location in Cedar Rapids. Everytime I turned around I the wind had blown another drift across the driveway. I'm very grateful to my family who gave me money for my birthday to buy the snowblower. It worked well!!

That's about it for us this week. We have a busy week ahead of us and hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate with all of our plans - if not I'm sure we'll adjust!

Snow day!!

My beautiful girl all ready for church on Sunday!
Wearing the pink fur coat that has been in our closet for two winters thanks to Gma Kathy. This was my coat when I was a little girl and I loved wearing it. I wish that I had a picture of me, but I don't - at least Katie finally fits in it and is enjoying wearing it. She cannot understand, however, why I won't let her wear it to school - ha ha!!

What a beautiful sweetheart!!

Katie and I enjoyed our first snow day of the year today. I have been fighting a cold for about four days now, so when he school was canceled and I didn't have any court, we decided to stay home and just have some fun. I told Katie that I heard a rumor that maybe they would be closing the courthouse tomorrow (something the Board of Sups NEVER do) and she informed me that she didn't want to spend another day with me - she wants to go to Marisa's and play with her. Guess one day with her sick mother is enough for Miss Katie.

Root Canal

Today Katie had her root canal. For those of you who don't know, Katie had her two front teeth broken this summer when a flying sippy cup hit her sippy cup dead on, while it was in her mouth. Since breaking her teeth, she has had two very bad infections in her teeth and the endodontist has determined that in order to try and save what is left of her tooth that a root canal must be done (even though she is really young for one and her roots are not even fully developed.)
So, today is d-day and she had her appointment at 10:45 a.m. Because I know what a crappy day she is going to have, I let her sleep in (and we had a "sleepover" in the living room last night). I had to laugh when Hawkeye came over to her and was "protecting" her. He laid his head on her arm until I got the camera out 0 and then he stood watch. I was surprised that she didn't growl at him - because she isn't real nice in the a.m.
I finally got her up and she got ready to go... she was so excited to go (she had no idea....) I loved her outfit and her hair extentions.
Her root canal went well and it was reported to me that she was a very brave girl during the proceeding. She did still have so much infection that she was not able to have the whole procedure today. Now we have to go back in two weeks. That will be very different because this time Katie has told me that she doesn't want to go because the "Num" part REALLY hurts. Oh boy!!!

Christmas Tree

Time to get ready for the most wonderful time of the year!

Santa's cutest helper??

Holding her new ornament, Barbie as a Ballerina.

Wearing her new ornament as an earring!

Over the weekend, we decorated our Christmas tree. We have so much fun putting on the ornaments and for me they bring back so many memories! Katie was very excited to get them all up, but she most of all loves putting the Barbie ornaments and the Scarlett O'Hara ornaments down at the bottom of the tree where they can come off and she can play with them!
